  • Firstnaukri: Hi all, we welcome you to our new initiative Firstnaukri NetEngage
  • Firstnaukri: Our first session today is with Mr. Sanjeev Bikhchandani, one of the early movers in the dot com space who realized the business potential of internet in India.
  • Firstnaukri: An entrepreneur since 1990, Sanjeev is the co-founder of Info Edge that runs Naukri.com, India's leading job site besides other web sites like Jeevansathi.com & 99acres.com.
  • Firstnaukri: He has joined us here for an hour today to answer your queries regarding campus placements, preparations required for your first job, and things to keep in mind before starting your career.
  • Firstnaukri: Since we have limited time with Sanjeev, he may not be able to answer all the questions but we will try our best to accommodate as many questions as possible.
  • Firstnaukri: This is a platform that will give you an opportunity to talk one-on-one with top corporate leaders & recruiters across different industries.
  • Prince jain: Gd Evening Sir. i am from a college where campus recruitment is almost nil. so what should i do?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: This is a common problem. The fact is that only the top tenpercent of colleges have really good placements. What students in other colleges need to do is apply privately- through seniors, through friends working in companies, on fresher hiring sites like firstnaukri.com
  • arunabha bhattacharj: Good evening sir , why there are always less opportunities and less package offeredtoBCA/BSC students than btech as a fresher entry and what can be done to bridge this gap? thank u. Arunabha
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: There is a general perception that a BTech course is more rigorous and harder to get into than a BCA. BCA students can make up for this handicap by greater individual effort for placement.
  • shilpi: presently I am in 7th sem pursuing engineering, Sir I am very worried about my campus selection
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: Talk to your seniors and ask them what worked for them. Research the companies and the jobs thoroughly. The more familiar you get with the process, companies and jobs the less intimidated you will become.
  • dhananjay tekade: hello sir, I am lagging somewhere in english communication. my frnds say i m very much confident but the time i face interview i get nervoused and cant communicate properly. wht shld i do?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: Improving English is not a short term process however you can achieve results if you work at it diligently. Watch the news in ENglish regularly, watch English language entertainment programmes, read english magazines and keep a dictionary with you and see
  • Prince Jain: Sir if i would have not done any industrial training then what should i have mentioned in my resume
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: First of all don't lie in your CV. If you get caught even years later you will get into trouble. See if you can do an internship between now and placement. And when you go for the interview you should have a genuine truthful reason as yo why you did
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: Then contact people two or three years senior. Basically talk to people who have been through it and learn from them
  • Priyanka: hello sir... i am pursuing BBA sem V.. Should i go for MBA first... Or some job experience
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: Working before an MBA is always a good idea. However everything depends on the quality of the company you have a job offer from and the quality of the MBA programme you have got admission to. Only then you can decide.
  • Pramod R Burly: Good evening :) what was the motivation for you to start this website ?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: We noticed that there was a gap in the market. There were many companies who had challenges finding good studetns on campus. And there were many good students who had a problem finding jobs from campus. We decided to fill this gap. A lot needs to be done. We have only just made a beginning. Over the next few years we intend to create a talent marketplace at the entry level.
  • Priyanka: I am also pursuing CS also along wid BBA... In which stream i should do my MBA?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: Hard for me to say. However the general principle is that you spould pursue that area which you are passionate about. The subject that motivates you to study. If you achieve excellence (in any area) you will succeed. It is always best to do what you love.
  • Prince Jain: Sir is it true market is much more open for IT students than before oris it shrinked due to USA"s move on outsourcing?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: The IT industry is back and hiring is on again. However it is still not at the levels of 2007.
  • Shagun Singhal: How should a computer science student prepare himself to be able to get a job in companies likeGoogle and Microsoft..
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: These companies hire only those people who are technically very very good. So know your stuff really well.
  • shilpi: sir many companies send mail that you have been selected you have to submit 10,000 Rs ans so . soo what should we do? we should believe them?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: You must never send money. These are scams. You will pay money and never hear from these people again.
  • Sai Ashish Kumar.M: sir, does the Firstnaukri team is planning for conduction of any events in the colleges?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: We are planning some recruitment events in campuses. The plans are yet to be finalised.
  • Shagun Singhal: Also, if a fresher has offer letters from multiple companies, how should he decide the company he should join...
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: Go for the one that offers the most learning, where the smartest people work so long as the salary difference isn't too high.
  • chandan dutta: mine is the first batch of my college to passout. no placements. wht can i do to get a placement in a good MNC
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: Internships is a good way to get companies to get to know you. If you do a good job here you could get an offer when you pass out.
  • ganeshkumarnsit: What major challenges and problems did you face in your field of working? How did you handle them?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: The biggest problem we faced early on was lack of capital. This meant we had to make do with less - fewer employees, lower salaries, poor infrastructure, a rudimentary site, lower marketing budgets etc.
  • pavan: i want to be an entrepreneur what will you suggest
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: I suggest you get some industry experience first. It will give you a good reality check and improve your chances of success as an entrepreneur
  • Arun: Sir, None of the companies come to our college for placement. How can FirstNaukri help us in getting placed ?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: You need to get your college registered on Firtsnaukri.com through your placement cell. We offer various branding solutions which will give visibility to your college.
  • Sai Ashish Kumar.M: can we do internships when we are in final year?does any company provide it?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: Companies that have have projects would be happy to take you on provided you can do the work. Look at the internship section on FirstNaukri and other entry level hiring sites
  • Shagun Singhal: Sir there are many aptitude tests like eLitmus, AMCAT and others that one can give to be noticed by companies. Which of these will your pick be if you were looking for a job..?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: Study what the testing companies are claiming. See if any company is affiliated with any of the tests. Then decide. You need not limit yourself to one test
  • ganeshkumarnsit: Being a fresher what are the additional skillsets should i possess to get supremacy over my competitors in todays world?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: The most important skills at the workplace other than technical skills are people skills. Can you work as a part of a team. Are you the sort of person who would be responsive to customer needs.Do you have leadership potential.
  • ganeshkumarnsit: Sir what are the additional skills that a student from IIT posses when compared to other college students?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: One cannot and should not generalise. There are very good students in other colleges as well. If you are not from an IIT dont be defensive. Focus on what you can do to maximise your potential looking ahead from where you are today.
  • Khusboo: Sir, We rely on sites like freshers World, chetanas, etc for job information. How can you help us better?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: We have more jobs and more recruiters than most other sites.
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: Of course you should use more than one site to maximise your chances.
  • G.R.sai krishna: sir, every one in our batch got registered with first naukri and in what way you are going to help in geting placed, i mean you get placements to our coll or any other solution?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: In the past twelve months 4800 companies have used FirstNaukri for hiring. We have the advantage of leveraging the the Naukri client base of over 35000 companies.
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: Having said that you need to be good to get a job
  • ganeshkumarnsit: These are some of the more difficult interview questions that you may be asked on a job interview. How to handle those in a positive and effective manner sir?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: The best way to prepare for an interview is to prepare a comprehensive list of expected questions and think through the answers. No question is tough if you are prepared
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: Firstnaukri is a siteexclusively for campus hiring. We only have jobs for students who are currently in campus or recently graduated . Recruiters are using this site extensively to hire for their fresher requirements.
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: You can however register on both the sites.
  • Arun: Sir, I am registered on your site for 5 months now. I have 72% marks in my electrical engg.. Not even a single call ...Why sir ?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: If you are going to graduate in 2011 then most jobs are yet to come. Be patient. In case you have passed out in 2010 then send a mail to 1stnaukri@gmail.com and we will correspond with you to understand the situation better
  • G.R.sai krishna: sir i am in 7th sem and i am geting internship related to marketing side but i am in to computers what you will suggest?
  • Sanjeev Bikhchandani: If that is the only internship you are getting and it is too late to try for another then go for it. All work experience is good. If you want to work in IT eventually I am sure you can supplement your CV with relevant IT projects in the next few months.
  • Firstnaukri: Thank You guys. It was great to see participation from you all. We also thank Sanjeev who took out time to interact with you. We will share the transcript of this session with you soon. Stay tuned for our upcoming sessions!
