Mr Stephen Sudhakar J

Vice President HR & GS Hyundai Motor India Limited
Mr Stephen Sudhakar J an astute professional with leadership experience over Three decades and has demonstrated his capabilities across the areas of Green Field Projects, Mergers & Acquisitions, Cross Cultural assignments, Organizational Development, in companies like Hindustan Aeronautics, TV Sundaram Iyengar & Sons, Siemens to name a Few.
Currently he serves as the Vice President HR & GS of Hyundai Motor India Limited.
In his current role Mr Stephen envisages and leads the overall provision of Human Resources & Administration services, policies and programs in line with the Business and Organizational goals thus building the organization as a great place to work. He holds responsibility for Human Resources, Employee Relations, Learning & Development, General Affairs, Safety and External Affairs pertaining to 15,000 manpower spread across India.
Mr Stephen is a Master in Social Work from University of Madras.
His previous assignment was with Dorma India Pvt Ltd as Regional Director HR, SAARC Region.

  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Aman, there is a lot of scope in the automobile industry. After you BE, you can join as a Graduate engineer Trainee and work in fuctions such as production, quality, purchase, design, engineering and so on.

  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Cars have been classified based on segments - mini, compact, premium, luxury and so on.

  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Raj Dharmirsinh, we do take electrical engineers. They work in our maintenance function and production departments

  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Anil Kumar, to be good at your job as a quality controller, you need to have a taste for quality and attention to detail. You must follow procedures strictly and at the same time be able to make improvements so that problems are not repeated. Problem solving ability is very important.

  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Ishu, Anil, among fresh engineers it is necessary that you have good fundamentals about engineering. Apart from that attitude, ability to transform knowledge practically at the workplace and a quench to learn are very imprortant for freshers. And above all passion.

  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Sanket, there is a market for all kinds of cars in India whether its a small car or a big SUV and changes do happen between segments as features and consumer preferences change

  • harish: the main challenge future world is going to face would be with alternate fuels and electric vehicles so i would like to know about your R&D dept working on this projects and chance for freshers
  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Harish, alternate fuels would be the future. All companies are investing in R&D and this is important for organisations to come up with new and innovative products. There is a great scope in R&D across different projects especially in alternate fuels

  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Babul, Metalurgist do work in Engine related activities. There are few companies in India which have a foundry where metalurgist are a great resource

  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Rishab, GETs generally are trained across various functions viz production, quality, engineering, maintenance, purchase etc and finally deployed in a particular function. The idea is to give them an all round exposure.

  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Soumya, knowledge of plastics is also essential in the auto industry. There are lot of plastic parts which are produced and specialization in plastics does help.
  • SHAILESH RAWAT: hello sir , is good academics is neccesary for career in auromobile sector specially in R&D . and whats the procedure for internship/training in Hyundai.
  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Shailesh, strong academics is important for the auto sector especially for R&D. It is also necessary that you have excelled problem solving skills and are extremely creative / innovative
  • Snigdha: Are mechanical Engineering Students also hired in automobile organizations or Automobile Engineers are preferred?
  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Snigdha, both mechanical and automobile students are hired in the automobile industry
  • Anil Kumar: Sir some time ago,i got a mail from Hyunda Motor and they demanded firstly deposite Rs-9200 then i provide a chance for PI.Is it true?
  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Anil Kumar, the mail you got asking you to deposit money for an interview is not from our orgnisation and it is not true. Please do not get carried away by such mails.

  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Kokila and Chelliah, software are extensively used across different domains in the auto industry and knowldge of softwares is a plus for you. Companies do train new recruits in using softwares

  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: We do recruit fresh engineers based on requirement. We do visit leading colleges across India and select fresh graduates. They have to attend a test followed by a group discussion and interview. Based on merit they are selected.
  • Nishant Pandya: Good afternoon sir. I'm Nishant Pandya, studying B. E.(mechanical) and am in final year. Sir, is it better to start career in small scale co. and then proceed to bigger cos or the otherwise?
  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: HI Nishant, there is no such fixed path of working in a small company or a big company. Where ever you work you must be able to learn and gain as much expereince as possible.

  • Showmon C Mathew: Sir, Since I am a mechanical engineer, and If you are to select a candidate what would you prefer an MBA graduate or a M tech graduate.
  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Showmon, whether to select a MBA graduate of MTech graduate would depend on the role that we are looking at. For certain jobs MBA's are preferred and for some MTechs would be required.

  • Mr Stephen Sudhakar J: Hi Sharmila, automobile companies recruit both mechanical as well as automobile engineers. Both specializations are useful in this industry.
